Cutting Edge Cold Storage in Moncton

Sealand Delivers High-Tech Warehouse for Kelcold in Just 8 Months

In 2017, Kelcold Refrigerated Warehouse and Logistics Inc. hired Sealand Building Group as the design-build contractor for their new cutting-edge, temperature-controlled warehouse in Moncton, New Brunswick, designed to serve the growing needs of Atlantic Canada. Located on a 20-acre site, the facility includes a 70,000 SF refrigerated warehouse and a 21,000 SF refrigerated loading dock, complete with advanced material handling systems and security infrastructure.

Faced with a tight timeline and a challenging climate, Sealand rose to the occasion.

Sealand managed the entire process, from pre-construction to final project handover. The team oversaw critical tasks such as insulated panel installation, thermal isolation, and specialized door assembly, ensuring the facility met the high standards required for temperature-controlled storage.

This advanced facility is a game-changer for Atlantic Canada’s refrigerated logistics industry.

The facility features 3.36 million cubic feet of cold storage space with a 48-foot ceiling height, and its penthouse refrigeration system ensures precise temperature control. The 12-position refrigerated loading dock, operating between 34°F and 36°F, provides seamless logistical efficiency with Glide In push-back racking and The Pallet Mole system.

Sealand’s efficient management ensured the project stayed on track, even in the face of a tight winter deadline.

By December 2017, the building was fully erected and weather-tight, with the cold storage mud slabs in place. Floor slab assembly was completed just 21 working days later, allowing racking installation to begin in February. By May 2018—only eight months after foundation work began—the facility was fully operational and ready to store refrigerated products.
